Speaker: Nicholas Fanning, resource engineer with Missouri River Energy Services.

Abstract: This presentation will focus on the history of the Red Rock Hydroelectric Project (RRHP) from receiving the Preliminary Permit to the current status of Construction.

Project Overview:  This discussion will provide a general overview of the RRHP and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) Lake Red Rock Dam.

Regulatory Process:  This discussion will highlight the regulatory process for building new hydro on existing Corps dams, the various stakeholders involved, and how the regulatory process impacted the Projects design and schedule.

Project Design:  This discussion will provide an overview of the Projects technical aspects, the design review process, considerations for construction, and Project operations.

Construction:  This discussion will provide an overview of the various parties involved with equipment supply and construction, challenges to be overcome during construction, and regulatory oversight during construction.

Biography: Nick Fanning is currently a Resource Engineer at Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  He is responsible for providing engineering support for all generation facilities operated by MRES.  In addition, he provides engineering and project management support for all new generation projects currently in development.

Nick has an associate’s degree from Mitchell Technical Institute in Electrical Construction and Maintenance and a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from South Dakota State University.
