Title: Energy Sustainability and Resilience Via High-Capacity Interregional Electric Transmission
Speaker: James McCalley, Harpole Professor
Abstract: Electric energy infrastructure results from societal decisions together with long-term investment planning, both a socio-political-economic discussion and a technical/engineering discussion. This seminar will address the mechanisms by which these discussions take place while simultaneously making the case that development of high-capacity interregional transmission is an attractive investment for the future of the US energy system, in terms of environmental and economic sustainability, resilience to Katrina-like disturbances, and adaptability to the various futures that may occur.
