Title: Energy-Efficient Data Collection in Wireless Sensor Networks
Abstract: For many wireless sensor network (WSN) applications, energy conservation is critical. With the type of hardware platforms used in WSNs, the wireless radio consumes the most energy, so we need energy-efficient communication protocols to ensure a long lifetime of the network. In this seminar, Mat will share some of his research on energy-efficient data collection protocols for WSNs. In particular, he will introduce the concepts of opportunistic data collection and the possible extension of these concepts to multicasting scenarios. Additionally, he will describe his motivating application – wind energy infrastructure monitoring and management – and briefly discuss his work on an application-specific communication protocol for monitoring wind turbine blades.
