Electric Power Research Center (EPRC)

We are a catalyst for collaboration between Iowa State University and industry power systems for research and development (R&D), technology transfer, and to strengthen undergraduate and graduate education in energy infrastructure. We study power systems from large interconnected transmission grids to the inverters critical for renewable energy and energy storage integration. Research and education is driven to improve reliability and security of the grid as more variable and distributed resources are connected, and as loads also become more variable.

We want to recognize three undergraduate electrical engineering students who were recently awarded scholarships from the IEEE Power and Energy Society. These are prestigious scholarships were awarded to only 244 students from 110 U.S., Puerto Rican, and Canadian universities.

  • Luke Auderer, senior in electrical engineering, is also a 4-H scholarship recipient.
  • Lance Martin, senior in electrical engineering, is a Corporal in the Iowa Army National Guard.
  • Ryan Flaskamp, senior in electrical engineering, is IEEE student chapter president and has had internships with MISO. Ryan was also the top-ranked student in IEEE Region 4 and received the John W. Estey Outstanding Scholar Award.
