Mohamed Y. Selim is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Iowa State University, where he teaches and develops courses in computer engineering, cybersecurity, wireless security, networks, and digital systems. He earned his Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Computer Engineering from Iowa State University, following earlier degrees in electrical engineering from Portsaid University and Suez Canal University.
Dr. Selim’s research focuses on next-generation wireless systems, including 5G/6G networks, large-scale wireless testbeds, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces, UAV-assisted communications, rural broadband testbeds, energy-efficient IoT, wireless security, and AI-enabled networking. His recent work also explores multimodal and agentic large language model frameworks for wireless environment perception, beam prediction, smart cities, and educational technologies. He has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed journals, conferences, book chapters, and funded research projects, including NSF- and NTIA-supported initiatives.
A dedicated educator, Dr. Selim has received multiple teaching honors, including Iowa State University’s Early Achievement in Teaching Award, College of Engineering teaching awards, and the Boast-Nilsson Educational Impact Award. His teaching innovations include hands-on cybersecurity labs, team-based learning, AI course assistants, and research-integrated undergraduate experiences.
