Title: Innovations in Electrochemistry: Flow Battery Development and Ammonia Electrosynthesis for Renewable Energy Storage

Bio: Wenzhen Li is Richard Seagrave associate professor at Iowa State University (since 2014 fall). He received his Ph.D. with honors in Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2004, and has worked as a postdoctoral researcher in University of Yamanashi, and University of California Riverside, as a research scientist in College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE), SUNY. He joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at Michigan Technological University as SFHI (Strategic Faculty Hiring Initiative in Sustainability) Assistant Professor in 2008, and got promoted to tenured Associate Professor in 2013. Wenzhen’s research interests are in the areas of electrocatalysis, electrochemical energy, advanced materials and biorenewables. His current research efforts are to explore novel electrocatalytic processes and develop advanced electrocatalysts for sustainable production of electricity, valuable chemicals and fuels from biomass-derived platform compounds, for greenhouse gas CO2 conversion, and for low temperature transformation of hydrocarbon fuels. He is also interested in developing novel fuel cell, flow batteries and advanced electrochemical energy materials. Wenzhen is one of the pioneer researchers who discovered that carbon nanotubes are a better fuel cell catalyst support than conventional carbon black. He has over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles with 5500+ (Web of Science) and 7500+ citations (from Google Scholar) and 6 issued patents, and his h-index is 38. He is ranked as a high impact researcher in fuel cells, electrochemistry, renewable energy and catalysis from Google Scholar.
