Abstract: This presentation will include a short introduction to HVDC theory, a comparison with AC transmission, and its recent developments including voltage source and converter topology. It will also include a review of implementation challenges for one or two HVDC projects. The presentation will focus on the practical side of modern industry challenges with the purpose of stimulating academia to tackle them.

 

Bio:ALI DANESHPOOY, PHD, PE, Vice President, Transmission Technical Studies, has more than 30 years of experience in high-voltage power and HVDC  transmission systems design and operation. His background includes renewable interconnection studies, dynamic stability and fast transients, project economic evaluation, compliance, and regulatory projects. Over his career, he has led projects in system modeling, dynamic stability, security assessment, impact studies, load interconnection, series capacitors, SSR, HVDC, and FACTS systems.
