Title: Nanoscale Modulation of Friction and Triboelectrification via Surface Nanotexturing and its Application to Electrohydrodynamic Nanolithography

Abstract: Nanoscale contact electrification (CE) of elastomer surfaces and the generated nanopatterned surface charge are important in many branches of nanotechnology, such as nanoxerography and data storage. However, their mechanism has not been fully clarified. In this talk, I will share with you some of my recent work about nanoscale CE on elastomer surfaces. First, I will introduce the recently discovered phenomenon of replica molding-based nanopatterning of tribocharge on elastomer surfaces. And then, I will discuss the material-combination dependence of the charge polarity and how the nanoscale distributions are affected by the interfacial nanotexture’s morphology. After that, I will establish a mechano-triboelectric process model for the nanoscale elastomeric CE via finite element modeling (FEM), indicating the cumulative tangential sliding distance during the interfacial separation as the governing factor for the final charge distribution. Finally, the generated annular surface charge is incorporated into electrohydrodynamic nanolithography, resulting in nanovolcanos with 10 nm-scale craters.
