Title: Fabrication and Applications for Tunable Sub-Wavelength Nanophotonic Devices
Abstract: Periodic nanostructures, such as 1D and 2D sub-wavelength gratings, are critical to a broad range of optical applications as they control light propagation and can enhance light-matter interactions. The ability to fabricate periodic structures with sub-wavelength features inexpensively has a great potential to impact integrated optics, optical sensors, and photovoltaic devices. The talk will present the fabrication approaches and applications for a linear variable photonic crystal filter with narrowband reflection that varies over a broad spectral range along the length of the filter, and a freestanding plasmonic membrane that supports extraordinary optical transmission in the mid-infrared region.
