Title: Instrument to Extract and Quantify Soil-Borne, Parasitic Nematode Pests of Agricultural Crops

Abstract: In the agricultural community there exist a number of soil-borne parasitic pests associated with significant yield losses. Among these pests the soybean cyst nematode is considered the #1 most damaging soybean related pathogen in the United States. Unfortunately, the damage it typically causes, while significant, does not produce obvious visual indications on the plants. As such, to determine an infestation level for this parasite their eggs must be extracted from soil manually. To this effect, we have been working to develop a table top robotic instrumentation platform to automate a sieve based soil extraction process.
