Kristen

Major: Computer engineering

Hometown: Alleman, Iowa

Campus Life: I am involved with the Information Assurance Student Group, which helps students become more familiar with how to make their computers, networks, and applications more secure, the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers student chapter, Women in Science and Engineering group, Society of Women Engineers, and GROOVE, which is a spring drumline. I also participate in many intramurals such as softball, volleyball, and broomball and am involved with the Greek community.

Why I Like Iowa State: I chose Iowa State because of the wonderful campus and the great engineering program. I had many family members who came to Iowa State when they went to college, too. I also like that there are so many different activities you can get involved with: educational groups, intramurals; music group; and more.

What I like About My Professors: I like that my professors are all approachable. If I need help, they are all willing to help me out and make sure I understand the material.

Why I Like Computer Engineering: I like that the technology is always changing and there is always something new that you can come up with, whether it’s a new technology for a game system or new medical devices.  There is always a chance to make something better—just look at how we went from computers that were the size of an entire room to now where we carry them in our hands.

My Dream Job: I hope to use the computer engineering skills I learn to make and improve medical equipment used in hospitals and even for people at home.
