In the fall of 2006, the ECpE department broke ground on Phase 1 of the Coover Hall Building Project. This first phase is dedicated to creating 23,000 square feet of new space for students. The space will include classrooms, teaching labs, and research labs.
The first phase was completed in April 2008. Phase 2 could begin later in 2008.
Phase 2 of the building project includes more new construction (see diagram below).
The plan for Phase 2 will add 33,000 square feet of new space and will provide a home for advising and senior design, as well as administrative office space and offices for faculty and graduate students. Also, an atrium will be created by enclosing the courtyard with a glass roof. The atrium will provide a place for students and faculty to gather. The new construction for Phase 2 is anticipated to take two years, and renovations such as updating the windows, the air conditioning system, and more will take another two years.
The building project is funded in part by private donors and state funds. Together, the project will cost an estimated $38.8 million.
The department currently is seeking donors interested in naming opportunities for the projects in the two newly constructed buildings and the atrium, as well as for classrooms and labs. Former students who want to can pool their resources together to name rooms and labs after former faculty members.
