ECpE Building Addition and Coover Hall Renovations Project

Phase I

Phase I of the ECpE Building Addition and Coover Hall Renovations Project was completed in April 2008. This first phase created 23,000 square feet of new space for students. The space includes classrooms, academic labs, and research labs.

Phase II

Phase II could begin in 2010. This phase of the building project includes more new construction (see diagram above). The plan for Phase II will add 33,000 square feet of new space and will provide a home for advising and senior design, as well as faculty and research space. An atrium also will be created by enclosing the courtyard with a glass roof. The atrium will provide a place for students and faculty to gather. The new construction for Phase II is anticipated to take two years, and renovations to Coover Hall such as updating the windows, the air conditioning system, and more will take another two years.

The building project is funded by private donors and state funds. Together, the project will cost an estimated $38.8 million.

Donor Naming Opportunities

The department currently is seeking donors interested in naming opportunities for the buildings, atrium, classrooms, laboratories, and more. Former students who want to can pool their resources together to name rooms and labs after former faculty members. If you’re interested in donating to the ECpE Coover Building Project or a naming opportunity, contact Ben Barnhart at the ISU Foundation (515-294-0934, barnhart@iastate.edu).
