Wife of Former ECpE Department Chair Dies

Ames, Iowa – Ruth Boast, 96, died Sunday, May 27, at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, Iowa. Boast was the wife of Warren B. Boast, the department chair for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECpE) from 1954 to 1975. A visitation will be held at Adam Funeral Home in Ames, Iowa, June 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church June 25 at 10:30 a.m.

“Ruth Boast was very committed to our department and made it a point to attend all our functions,” says Arun K. Somani, distinguished professor of electrical and computer engineering and ECpE department chair. “We will all miss Ruth a lot.”

Boasts were dedicated to the success of Iowa State’s ECpE department, and established the Warren B. Boast Undergraduate Teaching Award in 1993 to recognize outstanding faculty in the department.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband.

The family of Ruth Boast requests that memorial donations be made to the First United Methodist Church, Ames Historical Society, or the P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund, in lieu of flowers.
