Ames, Iowa – Undergraduate and graduate enrollment in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Iowa State University is up for the second consecutive year. The department has 883 bachelor’s degree, 140 master’s degree, and 188 PhD students, which is a total increase of 79 students over the previous year.

“We are pleased to see our student population increasing,” says Department Chair Arun K. Somani. “Our department is starting to see our faculty and staff’s, as well as the College of Engineering’s, strong recruiting efforts succeeding, and we hope to continue this trend in the coming years.”

In the past year, the department has introduced a recruitment brochure for prospective students, social networking presence on Facebook and Twitter, and series of videos targeting prospective students on the department’s Web site, among other efforts, to attract students to study electrical, computer, and software engineering at Iowa State.

The department is not the only unit within the College of Engineering with seeing an increase in enrollment this year. Undergraduate enrollment in Iowa State’s College of Engineering has achieved a 25-year high, with more than 5,086 undergraduates currently majoring in engineering.
