Des Moines, Iowa Ben Blakely, a senior in computer engineering who also is pursuing his master’s degree concurrently, was selected as one of 23 Iowa State University students to present his research at the Iowa state capitol building in March during Research in the Capitol, a program designed to highlight the importance of undergraduate research at Iowa’s regents universities to Iowa legislators and other state officials.

“It was a good experience to network with students from UNI and Iowa. We also got to tour the Capitol,” Blakely says.

Blakely, a native of Alleman, Iowa, presented his research on intelligent security systems, which he conducted as an undergraduate research assistant in the Internet-Scale Event and Attack Generation Environment and director of the annual Cyber Defense Competitions held at Iowa State. Blakely also has worked as a Network World tester and director of cyber defense competitions for IT-Olympics, a competition for high school students.
