Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Program of Study

The Program of Study (POS) is an assignment given in CprE/EE 166 to all ECpE students. It requires you to make a plan for your entire semester-by-semester education at ISU.

You may choose to revise your POS at any time and submit it to an advisor for review. However, the POS is considered a tool, and you are not required to revise it after completing CprE/EE 166.

A Route to Your Degree

The results of this exercise give you a map to meet your BS degree. However, no one will force you to adhere to the semester-by-semester plan you create.

The goals of this exercise are the following:

  • building a complete plan for finishing your EE or CprE BS degree
  • understanding your degree requirements
  • understanding prerequisite and co-requisite requirements for your classes

Student (Educational) Objective Statement

All students in the ECpE department will write an Student (Educational) Objective statement. The Student (Educational) Objective gives you the opportunity to reflect on why you have chosen your course of study, your future goals, and how you are going to make your education and your time at ISU help you to meet your goals.

You will identify:

  • Information supporting your decision to pursue your major
  • Goals for your time at Iowa State and your future (academic, professional, and personal)
  • Non-technical skills you will need to develop at Iowa State to support your goals

The Student Objective is a CprE/EE 166 assignment. It should help you to focus on what you want to do in your degree program.

General Education Component

The General Education Component is directly linked to the Student (Educational) Objective. As you write the Educational Objective, keep in mind that you will be choosing your general education courses based on your stated goals.
