If you have a disability and require accommodations, please contact the instructor early in the semester so that your learning needs may be appropriately met. You will need to provide documentation of your disability to the Disability Resources (DR) office, located on the main floor of the Student Services Building, Room 1076, 515-294-7220.
The degree audit is a categorical listing of courses which satisfy the minimum requirements for graduation in a specific curriculum. The information is generated from the student's permanent record indicating met and unmet course requirements.
This is a tool meant to help during registration and advising sessions. It is an unofficial record, so it does not take the place of a transcript.
All degree programs have been defined in the DARS degree audit system except programs from the 2001-03 catalog in the agriculture and engineering colleges. These programs continue to be maintained in the old system. The old system will discontinue use fall 2007 when the 2001-03 catalog expired.
Learn how to read the Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS) audit.
The following pieces of information are available on the degree audit:
| Item | Description |
| Identification Information | This information (at the top of the audit page) includes the student's full name, social security number, degree, curriculum, major(s), advisor name, the expected term of graduation, and the catalog the student is graduating under. |
| Areas | The audit is split into categories called areas (such as basic program, core classes, and technical electives). Each area is split into two parts: A - Courses taken in the area. Required courses listed under "A" have already been completed or the student is currently enrolled in them. B - Remaining requirements. Required courses listed under "B" still need to be completed. NOTE: Some requirements will have a "*" next to them, meaning they have been partially fulfilled. Each of these requirements is numbered. Each requirement is met by a certain course or series of courses. |
| Courses Not Applied (CNA) | This information is found at the bottom of the degree audit page. This section generally lists courses which cannot be used to meet degree requirements, courses which have been repeated, courses taken Pass/Not Pass, and transfer courses waiting to be evaluated by a faculty member (see advisor to check on status). |
| Minors | This section appears only if the student has declared a minor. This section will list which courses will count towards the minor. |
| Numbers and Grade History | This section lists the student's semester-by-semester GPA, credits, and ISU hours. It also shows how many drops are left, how many designated repeat credits are left, and how many credits the student has transferred to ISU. |
Sometimes the audit is incorrect. In such a case it is the student's responsibility to talk with an advisor about this. Advisors can initiate corrections to an audit, asking the college to make appropriate changes.
Two copies of the degree audit are made: one for the student and one for the advisor. If the student needs another copy, the student may request one through the college classification office (for engineering, this is in 110 Marston Hall). A fee will be charged to the student's university bill.
The student can also request an alternative audit to be made for a different major if they so choose. This could be a useful thing to do if the student wanted to investigate changing majors or adding another major.
The degree audit database can only handle a limited number of course options for each requirement. Some courses, particularly general education courses and technical electives, are not automatically put in the correct place on the degree audit.
If you think a course has been categorized incorrectly on your degree audit, contact your advisor.
